Do you need a visa for Bali in 2026? Yes, most short-stay visitors need one, but you buy it on arrival or online before you fly. Bali is part of Indonesia, and Indonesia offers a 30-day Visa on Arrival (VoA) or electronic VoA (e-VOA) to nationals of more than 90 countries including the UK, US, EU member states, Australia, India and Canada. The fee is IDR 500,000 (about USD 31 in August 2026) and it is valid for 30 days with one extension of 30 days. You also pay Bali’s tourist levy of IDR 150,000 per person and complete an online customs declaration before landing.
That means no embassy visit for a typical one to eight week holiday. You either queue at Ngurah Rai Airport in Denpasar after landing, or apply at molina.imigrasi.go.id and arrive with a QR code. Your passport must have at least six months validity and two blank pages, and you must show an onward or return ticket. The visa is single entry only.
Which Indonesia visa do you need for Bali?
Choose by intended stay and purpose. For tourism, family visits and most business meetings, one of these fits:

If you plan to work, volunteer, study, or create commercial content in Bali, the VoA is not the right permit. Indonesia’s UK travel advice notes the VoA is not suitable for those activities. Apply for the correct B211A sub-type before travel.
How does Visa on Arrival and e-VOA work in 2026?
At the airport, follow signs to Visa on Arrival counters before immigration. You can pay by card or cash in rupiah and then join the immigration queue. At Ngurah Rai, separate e-VOA lanes exist for those who applied online. Both cost the same IDR 500,000.
For e-VOA, apply at least a week before departure on molina.imigrasi.go.id. Create an account, upload your passport bio page and a photo, select VoA 30 days, pay online, and download the QR code. You present it at the e-VOA immigration lane. The Indonesian Directorate General of Immigration states e-VoA applications should be submitted within a few days of travel to keep details current, but approval is usually same-day to three days. Extensions for either version can be done once at any immigration office in Indonesia or online via the same portal, before the first 30 days expire. Overstay fines are IDR 1,000,000 per day.

Do I need a visa for Bali from India, the UK, US or Australia?
The answer is the same across those passports: yes, a VoA or e-VOA is required for tourism, even if you are only transiting through Jakarta or using Bali as a base to visit the Gili islands.
- India: e-VOA eligible. Indian nationals are not visa-exempt and must obtain VoA/e-VOA. Keep your return ticket and hotel booking handy at check-in, as airlines check.
- UK: VoA eligible at main airports and seaports. The UK Foreign Office confirms the VoA costs IDR 500,000 for a single entry.
- United States: same VoA rules. US State Department guidance adds the six-month passport validity rule for Indonesia.
- Australia: the largest Bali source market, also VoA. Australians can use Smartraveller and the Indonesian immigration site; health and travel insurance is strongly advised.
All nationalities using VoA need at least six months validity and two blank pages on the passport, and proof of onward travel.
What about the Bali tourist levy and the customs declaration?
Since 14 February 2024, Bali charges a tourist levy of IDR 150,000 per person (about GBP 7 or USD 9), including children. Pay before or on arrival via the Love Bali website or app and keep the QR voucher on your phone. It is separate from the visa fee and is checked sporadically at the airport and at attractions.
Within 72 hours before arrival, complete the All Indonesia declaration online (the e-CD customs form at ecd.beacukai.go.id) and save the QR code. Indonesia also requires this for the health and customs process, and the form is free. Budget airlines increasingly ask to see it at boarding.
For a longer single-trip, consider whether a B211A visitor visa saves you an extension run. A frequent point of confusion is the VoA extension. If you want 45 days in Bali, buy the VoA and extend once to 60 days rather than doing a visa run to Singapore.
How much does Bali entry cost and how long can you stay?
The baseline cost for an adult on a VoA holiday is IDR 650,000 total (500,000 visa plus 150,000 levy), before any extension. Extensions cost another IDR 500,000 if you use an agent or pay the immigration fee directly. Many travellers use registered agents in Bali for extensions to avoid office queues, but the official fee remains the same.
Maximum stay on a VoA without switching visa types is 60 days (30 plus 30). If you need longer, leave and re-enter on a new VoA, or switch to a B211A before you arrive. Overstaying even by one day triggers the daily fine and can affect future entries.
