The next MATTA Fair runs from Friday 2 to Sunday 4 April 2027 at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC) in Kuala Lumpur, and the Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (MATTA) offered free admission at both 2026 editions. A second 2027 edition follows from 3 to 5 September, also at MITEC, according to MATTA's 2027 events calendar, which says the dates may be subject to change. Malaysians come to compare and book domestic and overseas holidays, meeting licensed travel agencies, tourism boards, hotels and theme parks.

For foreign tourism boards, hotels and attractions, the key question is what they can do at a fair where only companies incorporated in Malaysia may sell. This page covers entry, the exhibitor rules, booth costs and getting to MITEC.

Who exhibits and who attends MATTA Fair?

MATTA calls the event "the No. 1 Consumers' Travel Fair in Malaysia". It is organised by MATTA's subsidiary MICEM Sdn Bhd. The 59th edition, held from 4 to 6 September 2026, was to fill 40,820 square metres across 10 halls with 2,054 booths from 306 participating organisations, according to MATTA's eve-of-show figures, which include 176 tour and travel agencies, 16 national tourism organisations (NTOs), 12 Malaysian state tourism organisations, 59 hotels and resorts, nine theme parks, one airline and 32 other travel services. April 2026 reported 2,051 booths and 332 organisations.

The NTOs in September 2026 included China, Japan, Korea, Indonesia, India, Taiwan, Türkiye and Uzbekistan. Taiwan was the featured "International Favourite Destination", a slot Macao held in April 2026. As of 1 November 2026, MATTA had published no final visitor or sales figures for September; its About page says 100,000 or more visitors are expected.

Visitors come to buy: in September 2026, anyone spending at least RM100 on a single receipt could enter the Buyers' Contest for RM150,000 worth of prizes. Trip.com data showed triple-digit growth in Malaysian travellers' flight and hotel spending on its platform in the first half of 2026.

How to attend MATTA Fair: free entry and how to exhibit

Is it open to the public? Yes. MATTA says the fair offers free admission, and at both 2026 editions it was open from 10am to 9pm, Friday to Sunday. In September 2026 the Saturday opening ceremony was for invited guests only. As of 1 November 2026, MATTA had published dates and venue for April 2027 but no visitor details.

MATTA's September 2026 Rules and Regulations put MATTA member agencies in Category A; non-members, tourism organisations, hotels, cruise lines, airlines, theme parks and attractions in Category B; and everyone else in C. For international exhibitors:

  • Foreign travel agencies may not take part, even inside NTO booths; nor may online travel agencies or timeshare companies.
  • NTOs sign a letter of undertaking and, to comply with the Tourism Industry Act 1992, submit for approval the list of agents staffing their booth.
  • International exhibitors may not sell directly to customers. Sales go through licensed Malaysian outbound agents, whose name and Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC) licence number must appear on all promotional material; brochures may not carry the exhibitor's own contact details.
  • Companies not incorporated in Malaysia may not sell anything at the fair.

In practice, a destination brings Malaysian sales partners: Taiwan's tourism office invited four Malaysian agencies into its September 2026 pavilion.

Item (September 2026 rates)Cost
Category B booth, international hall Level 3 (NTOs, hotels, airlines, attractions)RM3,200 space-only; RM3,500 shell scheme, per 3m x 3m
Category C booth, Level 3RM5,300 space-only; RM5,600 shell scheme
Refundable security depositRM600 per booth
Registration feeRM200, non-refundable

Fees are subject to 6% SST, and space-only stands start at 18 square metres. A shell-scheme booth includes a fascia, lights, a power socket, a desk and two chairs, and each booth carries five free exhibitor badges. Level 1 is for domestic travel and Level 2 for MATTA members, so international pavilions sit on Level 3.

Applications go through MATTA's online exhibitor portal. For September 2026, registration opened on 6 July, invoices were payable within seven days, and stands were chosen in order of booths booked, then registration sequence. Cancelling before 14 August cost 50% of the booth fee. As of 1 November 2026, the portal listed only November's state fairs, not April 2027.

Networking at MATTA Fair and MATTA Connect

The fair site lists no hosted-buyer or appointment programme; its sections cover visitors, exhibitors, media and sponsors. The trade value lies in the Malaysian agencies on the floor, who need product to sell and through whom any international exhibitor's sales must pass. In September 2026, Malaysia Aviation Group was the Official Airline Partner and Premier Sponsor.

For structured meetings, MATTA runs a separate B2B event, MATTA Connect. The 2026 edition, at the Ipoh Convention Centre on 29 and 30 July, offered business matching and a pre-tour for semi-hosted international buyers. MATTA's 2027 calendar lists MATTA Connect for 24 and 25 June 2027, venue to be announced.

Getting to MITEC and where to stay

MITEC says the train from Kuala Lumpur International Airport to KL Sentral takes 28 minutes from KLIA and 33 from KLIA2, and that KL Sentral is 6.5 km, about 13 minutes, from the venue by car. At both 2026 fairs, MATTA ran complimentary shuttles from KL Sentral and Sunway Putra Mall.

MITEC also names buses 821 and 851 to the KL1022 MATRADE South stop, a four-minute walk, and Semantan MRT station, about a 10-minute drive. E-hailing drop-off is at the South Entrance. MITEC's basement parking costs RM10 for the first hour and RM15 a day at most. The fair's site and MATTA's releases name no official hotel.

How does MATTA Fair compare with ITB Asia and ASEAN TRAVEX?

The region's trade shows work differently from this consumer sales fair. ITB Asia in Singapore is a B2B show with no public days, returning from 20 to 22 October 2027. ASEAN TRAVEX, on 20 and 21 January 2027 during the ASEAN Tourism Forum in Singapore, is trade-only, for international buyers and ASEAN-based suppliers. More dates are in our Asia-Pacific travel trade shows guide and the full travel trade show calendar.

Frequently asked questions

The 59th edition ran from 4 to 6 September 2026.

Is MATTA Fair open to the public?

Yes. MATTA Fair is a consumer travel fair, and MATTA offered free admission at both 2026 editions, when the halls were open to the public from 10am to 9pm on all three days, Friday to Sunday. In September 2026 exhibitors entered from 9am, and the Saturday opening ceremony was for invited guests only.

How much does it cost to attend MATTA Fair?

Nothing, on recent form: MATTA offered free admission at both 2026 editions and, as of 1 November 2026, had announced no change for 2027. In September 2026, spending at least RM100 on one receipt entered the Buyers' Contest. Exhibitors pay booth fees: RM3,200 to RM3,500 per 9 square metres for tourism boards in the Level 3 international hall at September 2026 rates, plus SST.

Where is MATTA Fair held?

The Kuala Lumpur editions are held at MITEC, Kompleks MITEC, 8 Jalan Dutamas 2, 50480 Kuala Lumpur. It uses 10 halls on three levels: domestic travel on Level 1, international on Levels 2 and 3. At the 2026 fairs, MATTA ran complimentary shuttles from KL Sentral and Sunway Putra Mall.

Can foreign companies exhibit at MATTA Fair?

National tourism organisations can. But under the September 2026 rules, foreign travel agencies may not take part, and companies not incorporated in Malaysia may not sell anything at the fair. International exhibitors route sales through licensed Malaysian outbound agents, whose details must appear on every brochure and promotional item.
