Visa-free entry is permission to visit, not a guarantee. Immigration officers can still refuse landing, and anyone coming to work, study, run a business or live in Hong Kong needs the proper visa or entry permit whatever their passport. Indian passport holders: the PAR rule
India is listed at 14 days with a condition: nationals must apply for and successfully complete pre-arrival registration (PAR) online before travelling. Do it on the Immigration Department's website, print the successful notification, and carry it with the passport you registered. Without a valid PAR result, the 14-day visa-free grant does not apply and the airline can deny boarding. Register each trip; the result is tied to one passport and one journey pattern.
Transiting through Hong Kong airport
Most nationalities that need a visa for Hong Kong do not need one for direct airside transit if they stay inside the airport transit area. The exception is a flagged list of nationalities, marked with symbols in the Immigration tables, that need a visa for any purpose including airside transit. Examples include Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Pakistan. If your passport is on that list, arrange the transit visa before you fly, even for a two-hour connection. Everyone else connecting: keep your onward boarding pass handy and do not clear immigration unless your layover plan requires it.
A Hong Kong visa does not cover mainland China
This is the costliest confusion in the region. Hong Kong runs its own immigration system, and a Hong Kong visit permit, visa-free entry included, does not admit you to mainland China. Crossing into Shenzhen or taking the high-speed rail to Guangzhou needs a separate Chinese visa unless your nationality enjoys one of Beijing's own visa-free schemes. What officers ask for on arrival
Visa-free travellers should be ready to show sufficient funds for the stay and a ticket for onward or return travel. Hotel confirmations help. Short stays rarely draw scrutiny, but one-way tickets and vague plans invite questions.
