Vietnam welcomed nearly 2 million foreign visitors in August 2026, a monthly record for what is normally the low season, lifting eight-month arrivals to almost 16 million. Russia is now Vietnam's third-largest source market, behind China (3.54 million) and South Korea (2.76 million), which together account for close to 40% of all arrivals. Europe is the fastest-growing region overall at 53.4% to about 2.68 million, while Asia still supplies roughly three-quarters of visitors at 11.8 million. Why are Russian tourists flocking to Vietnam?
The rebound is built on restored air links. Resumed and expanded charter flights now connect major Russian cities directly with Vietnam's beach destinations, and coastal resorts such as Nha Trang, Mui Ne and Phu Quoc are the biggest beneficiaries. Martin Koerner, commercial director of The Anam Group, told Vietnam Investment Review that Russian visitors are typically aged 30 to 50 and above, drawn by "Vietnam's warm climate, beaches, diverse landscapes and increasingly developed resort infrastructure", plus a cost advantage for longer beach holidays without giving up service quality. Demand peaks in the Russian winter, when travellers trade snow for the South China Sea, and forecasters now expect a record full-year Russian total.
