Admirals Club Price Increase: Up to 75% More From 23 August
American Airlines raises Admirals Club membership to as much as $1,400 a year from 23 August 2026, adds a $750 solo tier and scraps renewal discounts and household plans. Here is what changes, why some reports say 65% and others 75%, and how to lock in current rates.

The Admirals Club price increase takes effect on Saturday 23 August 2026, and it is a steep one: American Airlines is raising the standard annual lounge membership from $850 to $1,400 for members without elite status, an increase of roughly 65% on the new-purchase price and a full 75% against the old $800 renewal rate, which is being abolished. Executive Platinum members, who previously paid as little as $700 to renew, will pay $1,200. American is also discontinuing household memberships, scrapping the $50 renewal discount and introducing a stripped-down $750 "solo" tier with no guest or partner-lounge access. Travellers have until 22 August to buy or renew at today's prices — and existing members can renew up to 90 days before expiry to lock in the lower rate.

How much does Admirals Club membership cost after 23 August?

Under the new structure, full membership pricing scales by AAdvantage status: $1,400 for general members, $1,350 for Gold, $1,300 for Platinum, $1,250 for Platinum Pro and $1,200 for Executive Platinum. The distinction between new-purchase and renewal pricing disappears entirely — everyone pays the same flat rate for their tier.

Full membership still covers the member plus up to two guests (or immediate family), with entry to the Admirals Club network and eligible partner lounges when flying oneworld alliance carriers. Existing household memberships remain valid until their current term expires.

Why do some reports say 65% and others 75%?

Both figures are correct — they simply compare different baselines. The 65% figure measures the new $1,400 general-member price against the old $850 new-purchase rate. The 75% figure compares it with the old $800 renewal rate, which loyal members actually paid year after year thanks to the $50 renewal discount that is now eliminated. Because renewals were cheaper, existing members feel the sharpest jump: an Executive Platinum renewing at $700 last year faces $1,200 next time, up 71%.

What is the new $750 solo membership — and what is the catch?

The solo tier costs $750 a year or 75,000 AAdvantage miles, priced flat regardless of elite status. It admits the member only: no guests, no family, and no access to partner lounges such as Alaska Lounges or other oneworld facilities — entry is limited to roughly 50 Admirals Club locations. For solo road warriors that undercuts today's $800–$850 rate, but anyone who ever travels with a colleague, partner or child will find the full tier — at nearly double the price — is the only real option. Is the Citi AAdvantage Executive card a cheaper way in?

Yes — and analysts believe that is largely the point. The Citi / AAdvantage Executive World Elite Mastercard continues to include full Admirals Club membership, with guest privileges and partner-lounge access, for the primary cardholder. Its annual fee rises from $595 to $695 on the same day, 23 August — still $705 less than a standalone general membership, before counting the card's other perks. One Mile at a Time reads the move plainly: the primary goal is to push lounge users onto the card. New to premium travel cards? Start with our beginner's guide to travel credit card points.

How does it compare with Delta and United lounges?

American's new grid is a near carbon copy of United's 2025 restructure. United Club All Access costs $1,400 for general members (falling to $1,200 for Premier 1K), with two guests and Star Alliance lounge entry, while United Club Individual is $750 with no guests — identical price points to American's. The United Club card, at $695, mirrors the Citi workaround. Delta is the outlier: it restricts Sky Club membership sales to Medallion elite members ($695 individual; $1,495 executive with two guests), steering everyone else towards premium Amex cards. Lounge pricing is converging upwards across all three US majors as record business-travel spending keeps clubs crowded.

What should members do before the deadline?

If you want another year at current prices, buy or renew by 22 August 2026. American allows renewals up to 90 days before expiry, so members whose terms lapse this autumn can still lock in the old rate. Reports indicate members renewing on or after 3 October 2026 must choose one of the new options. Frequent AA flyers who value guest access should price the Citi Executive card first; occasional visitors may find day passes or the solo tier sufficient. Household members should note their plan survives only until the current term ends.

Frequently asked questions

When does the Admirals Club price increase take effect?

The new pricing applies from 23 August 2026. Purchases and renewals completed by 22 August are charged at current rates, and American permits renewal up to 90 days before your membership expires, so many existing members can secure one more year at the old price.

How much will Admirals Club membership cost in 2026?

From 23 August, full membership costs $1,400 for general members, scaling down by elite status to $1,200 for Executive Platinum. A new solo tier costs $750, or 75,000 AAdvantage miles, but excludes guests and partner lounges. The $50 renewal discount and household memberships are both eliminated.

Is the Citi AAdvantage Executive card cheaper than buying membership?

Substantially. The card's annual fee rises to $695 on 23 August, yet it still includes full Admirals Club membership with guest privileges and partner-lounge access for the primary cardholder. That is $705 less than the $1,400 standalone general-member price, before factoring in the card's other travel benefits.

Does the $750 solo membership include guests or Alaska Lounges?

No. The solo tier admits only the member, with no guest or family access, and it excludes partner lounges such as Alaska Lounges and other oneworld facilities. Entry is limited to around 50 Admirals Club locations, which is why frequent travellers with companions will likely need the full tier or the Citi card.
